Set Up Multifactor Authentication (MFA) for Microsoft Single Sign On (SSO)

Body

Purpose

Multifactor Authentication (MFA) is one of the security measures Biola IT uses to protect your account. In addition to your account password, MFA is a second verification method used during sign-in. Users can enter a code received by phone call, text, or the Microsoft Authenticator app to satisfy MFA requirements.

This page explains how to set up Multifactor Authentication (MFA) during your initial sign-in process.

How to Do It

  1. Sign in to any Biola web service that requires MFA with your Biola email address and password, for example: myaccount.biola.edu
    • If you've never set up your Multifactor Authentication (MFA) for Microsoft SSO, a prompt will guide you through the process.
    • Click Next
This screen will appear after logging in to myaccount.microsoft.com. There is a Use a different account field, a Learn more field, and a Next button.
  2. Follow the onscreen instructions to set up MFA using the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device (Android or iPhone).
  3. If you do not want the Microsoft Authenticator app select "I want to set up a different method", see these instructions: Set up a mobile device as a two-step verification method.
  4. If you would like to update your MFA method in the future, sign-in to myaccount.microsoft.com and click on Update info under Security Info.

Using MFA

  1. After signing in to a Biola service that requires Multifactor Authentication (MFA), you will be prompted to verify your identity. Select your verification method (Text, Call, or Microsoft Authenticator App)and click Next.
  2. If using your phone, you should receive a text message or voice call with your six-digit verification code.
    • If you don't receive a code:
      • Click Sign in another way.
      • Click your preferred verification method.
      • If you are still unable to retrieve a verification code, please contact the IT Helpdesk at it.helpdesk@biola.edu or 562.903.4740 for assistance.
  3. Enter your verification code and click Verify.
