Biola WiFi Connection

Details

Network service is provided for users to assist in the academic, educational, and research purposes of Biola University. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, guests, and affiliates of Biola University are granted temporary access to this service while attending, employed by, or visiting the university.

The table below summarizes Biola's wireless networks, their expected use, and the requirements for using them.

Network Use Requirements
Biola-NetID Secure encrypted access for all students, staff, faculty & alumni NetID & password, WPA2 Enterprise supported device
Biola-Guest Open access for guests of the university. Also supports wireless devices like SmartTV's and gaming consoles. Any wireless capable device

Biola-NetID Network

When connecting to the Biola-NetID network, you may be asked by your device if it can trust a DigiCert CA certificate from a server named "network-access.biola.edu" (Biola's network authentication server). When you allow this certificate it allows your device to communicate with our network properly.

The Biola-NetID network encrypts all network traffic, securing your activity from other devices that may be eavesdropping.

Biola-Guest Network

The Biola-Guest network provides access to guests similar to other open wireless networks, but with limited access to campus resources. Due to Biola-Guest functioning as an open network, it lacks the high level of security and protection the Biola-NetID network provides.

Biola-Guest has these additional limitations:

  • Bandwidth limit of 40 Mbps
  • Restricted access (internet and public Biola sites only)
  • Network traffic is not encrypted
  • Password will be valid for five days

The Biola-Guest network also provides access to devices NetID users may have that lack WPA2 Enterprise support. Qualified wireless devices may be registered for the academic year to avoid recurring need of guest registration.

Registering other devices on Biola-NetID Network

Some wireless devices may need to be registered in order to connect to or function properly on Biola's wireless network (e.g. devices that do not support WPA3-Enterprise security). See How-to article under Related Articles.
