How to Use Cisco Secure Client (Biola's VPN)

Purpose

This article provides instructions on how to connect to Biola VPN on Mac, Windows PC, or iOS. It includes steps for setting up the VPN connection using Cisco Secure Client.

How to Use Cisco Secure Client on Mac

  1. Open Cisco Secure Client.
    •  !  Note: The application is stored in Macintosh HD/Applications/Cisco.
  2. When prompted, type "vpn.biola.edu" into the field if it isn't there already.
  3. Click Connect.
  4. Select the Biola_VPN group.
  5. Enter your Biola email address, then click Next.
  6. Enter your Biola password when prompted, and click Sign in.
  7. Upon 1st-time login, select desired multifactor method and select Next.
    •  !  Note: You may use the MS Authenticator smartphone app, or select "I want to use a different method" to use a phone number.
  8. If you selected "I want to use a different method," then enter your phone number, and select Next.
  9. If you select "Yes" when prompted to "Stay signed in," your login info will be saved in the Cisco Secure Client for 60 days.
    • On future Cisco Secure Client VPN login attempts, you will be prompted to approve your sign-in request with a second factor.
    • Approve the request using the Microsoft Authenticator app, or click "I can't use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now" to use your predefined second factor.
  10. You're connected to Biola VPN!
  11. To disconnect from VPN, click on the Cisco Secure Client icon in the menu bar at the top of the screen, and select Disconnect.

How to Use Cisco Secure Client on Windows

  1. Open Cisco Secure Client. You can find it by opening the Start menu and searching for "cisco."
  2. When prompted, type "vpn.biola.edu" into the field if it isn't there already.
  3. Click Connect.
  4. Enter your Biola email address, then click Next.
  5. Enter your Biola password when prompted, and click Sign in.
  6. Upon 1st-time login, select desired multifactor method and select Next.
    •  !  Note: You may use the MS Authenticator smartphone app, or select "I want to use a different method" to use a phone number.
  7. If you selected "I want to use a different method," then enter your phone number, and select Next.
  8. If you select "Yes" when prompted to "Stay signed in," your login info will be saved in the Cisco Secure Client for 60 days.

  9. When prompted, press Accept to agree to the VPN Service Agreement.
  10. You're connected to Biola VPN!
  11. To disconnect from VPN, click the arrow in the System Tray, then right-click on the Cisco Secure Client icon and select "VPN Disconnect".

How to Use Cisco Secure Client on iOS

  1. Open the Cisco Secure Client app on your home screen.
  2. Click the Connections tab.
  3. Click Add VPN Connection.
  4. Under description, put "Biola VPN". Under service address, put "vpn.biola.edu". Click Save.
  5. When prompted, click Allow.
  6. Enter your iPhone passcode to Add VPN
