How do I see if my computer is backing up to OneDrive?

These instructions help ensure your computer is correctly backing up important files to OneDrive for secure cloud storage and easy access.

Prerequisites:

  • Any active Biola Employee using a Biola owned Mac or PC.

Instructions

For PC Computers

  1. Look for the OneDrive icon (a cloud) in the menu bar at the bottom-right of the screen.
  2. Click the OneDrive icon in the menu bar.
  3. Select Preferences or Settings to go to OneDrive's account settings page.
  4. Go to the Sync and Backup and select Manage Backup.
  5. Check the list of folders being backed up (Desktop, Documents, and Pictures).
  6. Open the OneDrive folder in File Explorer.
  7. Verify that your files and folders are syncing. A green check mark or cloud icon next to a file indicates it is backed up to OneDrive.
If the icon for OneDrive is not at the bottom right of your machine but you can search for OneDrive in your applications, please schedule an appointment with the IT Service Desk. OneDrive is not currently backing up your data.

For Mac Computers

  1. Select the OneDrive icon (a cloud) in the menu bar at the top-right of the screen. If it is not there, you can open the application Self Service, sign in with your Biola email and password and download the OneDrive application.
  2. Select the gear icon, then select Preferences.
  3. Select the Account option.
  4. Select Choose Folders next to the OneDrive - Biola University location.
  5. You can view and change the folders that are backing up to OneDrive.
  6. Open the OneDrive folder in Finder. If your files and folders appear here, they are backed up to OneDrive.
